Kaufhof Warenhaus AG as part of the Metro Group is a department store, based in Germany with 126 stores in Germany and 15 stores in Belgium. Since 2002 Kaufhof is very interested in RFID and started a field trial with Gerry Weber along the whole supply chain to find out how RFID works and how far RFID can optimize the processes at Gerry Weber and Kaufhof. The focus was mainly on the supply chain and on in-store processes. The field trial was embedded into the strategy and the structure of the Metro Group Future Store Initiative. The results of the case study were so positive that Kaufhof started activities to get an agreement with the main fashion retailers and garment suppliers that RFID has a forthcoming focus for the fashion sector in Germany.
